Regular Programs @ SMUMC Youth! February 23, 2009

Church: We worship with our whole church at either 8:30am service or 11:00am service.  Worship is the central activity of the people of God!
Sunday School: Sunday School meets at 9:45am.  We have a Middle School boys class led by some great men of the church.  We have a Middle School Girls class led by some great ladies.  Both of these classes meet upstairs in Bailey Hall.  The classes are right next to each other on the right side of the hallway.  Our High School class meets in the Ray building which is across the street
from the sanctuary on the left side of the parking lot.
UMYF: United Methodist Youth Fellowship: …aka “Youth,” “Youth Worship.”  Meets from 5:30pm – 7:15pm on Sunday nights in Bailey Hall.  This is when we all get together, high school and middle school,

to worship together as young people, build lasting friendships, and study the scriptures together.  We have a light meal at 5:30, followed by games, music led by our Youth Praise Band, and teaching and prayer.  All are invited and students are encouraged to bring friends!
Breakfast Clubs: This is a great time to recharge during the week!  Our high school students meet on Tuesday mornings at 7am at Chic-fil-a for breakfast and devotion.  Our SMMS students meet at Hardees at 6:30am for breakfast and a devotion!  Students will be bussed to school in the church vans.  Breakfast clubs meet when school is in session.
Other Opportunities!
Summer Time: We have a great time over the summer with special activities and weekly trips to the Gathering Place, a youth worship gathering on St. Simons Island!  We also have our youth week and Youth Led Services over the summer!

Mission Trips: Over the summer we take a mission trip each year with the Appalachia Service Project.  This trip is for high school students (including those entering high school).
Student Leadership Team:

Retreats: We have retreats and special trips during the year.  We go to November Celebration during the Fall, we have our Student Leadership Team retreat for SLT members, and our Confirmation Retreat in the Spring!  We also attend concerts and other events that help our students get away from the cares of the world in order to encounter God!
Youth Praise Band: Each week a group of middle and high school students lead us in worship at UMYF.  Any student is eligible to be a part of the Youth Praise Band.  Just talk to Jim!

Student Leadership Team Retreat, Recap February 23, 2009

This past weekend members of our Student Leadership Team and other youth with an interest in leadership took a day retreat to Epworth by the Sea.  We learned leadership skills on the ropes course, we had a workshop on learning styles and spiritual gifts, and we celebrated communion with Rev. Adam Ricker, Associate Director of Connectional Ministries for our conference.  Our students were challenged to reflect upon themselves:  how did God create us and how did He gift us?  Based on how God has wired us and gifted us by the Spirit, in what way can we uniquely work to make disciples of Jesus Christ?  We had a great time.  I hope you pay attention to the impact that these students are having on our church and community.   Pics coming soon!
